Kodiak [koʊ-di-'æk], the Kodiak Republic, or TKR; officially the Serene Republic of Kodiak, is a liberal democracy located in the west of the Maxtopian Penninsula. Kodiak is just under 1,000,000 km² and has a population of about 100 million. Its capital is centrally located at Rykkburgh and the largest city is Duckburg. There is no official language but all government business is done in English.

Previously a monarchy under the dynasty Bromannikha, a popular revolution preceded the proclamation of the Republic of Kodiak in a large break-away portion of the country on 01 September 457. The remaining lands of the Bromannikhan Kingdom (often referred to as the Last Kingdom) slowly and peacefully integrated into the Kodiak Republic over thirty years, completing the process in 488.

Government and Politics

For details on the governmental structure, see The Constitution of the Seventh Republic of Kodiak.
For a list of executive governments over time, see List of chancellors of the Kodiak Republic.

Political Parties

For a list of political parties, see Political parties in the Kodiak Republic

Political Parties have been legal in the Kodiak Republic since the year 639, after a decision by the Seathenia Provincial Court declared political organisation a right under Article 4 of the Constitution. Attempts at official parties existed prior to this ruling, but none held any meaningful influence. Only the DLPK existed both before and after the ruling, but was disbanded after poor electoral performance in 642.

Provinces and Constituencies

For a list of constituencies and their representatives in the General Assembly, see Constituencies of the Kodiak General Assembly

Provinces are large administrative regions within the Kodiak Republic. Each province contains many constituencies that elect a Representative to the General Assembly. In total, there are 200 seats in the General Assembly and hence 200 constituencies of various sizes in Kodiak. A constituency may have up to roughly 350,000 people. Each province also has a provincial capital which serves as the administrative capital of the province and is typically the largest city in the province and represents the central base for local government.

RP Note: Players are elected representatives, however the local government structure and local elections are abstracted in favour of the General Assembly where the national political simulation occurs. Therefore, players may create a constituency in any province and populate details with a wiki page should they desire. Since capitals typically hold very large populations, they may have more than one constituency dividing the city.

Each province's capital and any key locations or points of interest are listed below.

Anitomea (ANT)

Foreign Relations

The Kodiak government holds a cool relationship with the Assembly of Nations, in stark contrast to the general popular opinion which is heavily opposed to the Assembly of Nations (AoN) after nearly 100 years of international quarantine following the outbreak of the Kodiak Flu. While the AoN has invested heavily into programs to rebuild Kodiak, the results have been mixed and the economy continues to struggle to catch up to the international system. As a result, Kodiak has become more integrated with the smaller "United Regions Alliance", an organisation within the AoN which seeks to strengthen middling-economies' power in the face of influence from the global superpowers.

Within this framework, Kodiak has managed to build new relationships with the Republic of Democratia and the Commonwealth of Anteria. Relations with Democratia have been difficult to maintain through their frequent changes in government and foreign policy, but remain friendly. Anteria, being a less organised confederation of semi-sovereign regions, maintains a sound trading and friendship pact with Kodiak. Notably, Kodiak has begun to thaw relations with the United Kingdom after they helped lead the push for Kodiak quarantine, in the hopes of integrating Kodiak into the International Trade Organisastion.

The embassies of the The British Empire, the Empire of Ingocnita, and the Neasmyrnae have been converted into museums since the fall of their respective governments while Kodiak was quarantined.

Military

Full article: Defense White Paper of 630AB

The Kodiak military is in the midst massive shortfall in readiness from decades of under funding and lack of equiping and maintaining. The military, with advice from the World Assembly, is changing its doctrine and tactics from a top-down directed leadership style to one of emphasizing initiative at the lowest leader level possible. Since the arrival of World Assembly advisers, more Kodiak junior officers have trained in outside military academies, this influence is seen throughout the military from the use of more focus on mission command. The most experienced officers, however, were trained in domestically, and sometimes this diverse experience creates a rift between the senior Kodiak officers and those at the field grade level and below.

The Kodiak army has an estimated 100,000 ground troops divided into three operational commands— Eastern, Northern, and Southern. Each operational command controls a division and at least one separate brigade. Some of the maneuver brigades are assigned to the division in each operational command while the separate brigades report directly to the operational command. The Supreme High Command has three separate brigades under its direct command and located close to the capital city for internal security purposes. The separate tank brigade operates the newest equipment and these brigades are composed of the best-trained soldiers in the ground forces.

The Kodiak navy contains approximately 14,000 sailors of all ranks. The country divides control of its navy between the Northern and Southern Naval Territories, with the overall headquarters in Rykkburgh. The former operates out of San Chico and the latter out of Robingrad.

Kodiak operates a fairly robust air force of 45,000 personnel that consists of a headquarters in Rykkburgh, three air commands covering the same ground territory as the army commands (North, East, and South, located at Taiping, Mentian, and Astroberg respectively), five fighter squadrons, one ground attack squdron, one bomber squadron, one reconnaissance squadron, three transport squadrons, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) squadron. Assets that the Kodiak air force can use on the battlefield to provide close air support (CAS) to ground forces include the one ground attack squadron. In addition to its maintenance units, the Kodiak air force fields an aviation transport squadron.
