A Resolution to Amend the Nuclear Power Act, 644

A resolution to amend existing legislation to enable the expansion of non-carbon energy generation.
PASSED on 1 March 665 with 13 Aye, 3 Nay, and 2 Abstain.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC OF KODIAK:

OBSERVING the effect of carbon-based fuels upon the global climate;

COMMITTING the nation to its place as a responsible global actor;

NOTING the high efficiency and track record of safety of nuclear power;

RECOGNISING high-energy and high-efficiency power will be essential for the carbon-capture technologies of the future;

HEREBY SHALL;

Amend the NUCLEAR POWER ACT, 644 as below.

Original Text

1.1 - By policy, nuclear reactors shall be maintained until the end of their operational life.
1.2 - If a reactor has reached the end of its operational lifespan, it shall be locally decommissioned.
1.3 - Nuclear reactors are allowed to be constructed within the Kodiak Republic

Amended Text

1.1 - By policy, nuclear power shall be a major contributor to the national grid with an expectation of expansion above 60% of carbon-fuel generation.
1.2 - Reactors shall be replaced for efficiency and/or economic viability as determined by the Kodiak Electricity and Gas Utilities Company (KEGU Co).
1.3 - Nuclear power generation shall be controlled by KEGU Co as a state owned enterprise.
1.4 - Authorises ₣250 million per quarter for the administration, inspection, research, and approval procedures of current and future nuclear reactors.
