642 General Election - 30 May 2022
From The Kodiak Republic Wiki
The 642 General Election was held on 30 May 2022. Two candidates ran for President in this election: Incumbent President Tobias Virstürm (PPK) and Rudra Jaiswal (Independent). Mr. Jaiswal was disqualified after a police investigation discovered numerous payments from international rightist organisations as well as links to an anti-semitic hate group. Three candidates declared for the position of Chancellor. Oskar Luchens of the National Unity Party (NUP), Patrick Barber of the Kodiak Workers' Party (KWP), and Yungley Shaon of the Chest & Co Sponsored Political Office (CACSPO). Chief Justice Martang Eðeltreow lodged his intention to remain early in the campaign season.
Notable in this election, Sitting Chancellor Wesley Karlsson dissolved his Democratic Labor Party of Kodiak and declined to run for a second term. A debate was held including all three Chancellor Candidates, and may be heard again here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPUy5Qh47WM
The election ran for three days and was certified by the Public Service.
The election was run through the EasyPoll Software on Discord and the questions put were:

Greetings
I will be standing for the coming elections for Assembly President. Let's make The Kodiak Republic more better place for all.
Thank you
Tobias Virsturm (PPK)
Tobias Virsturm walks towards a platform setup at the front of his family estate on a rainy afternoon. He takes to the podium, the light sprinkling of rain not deterring him. He casually starts to address the people and press in front of him.
Thank you all for being here today! A little rain has never hurt anyone, but I’ll make this brief so we don’t all go home soaking wet.
People of Kodiak, I first want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you as the president of our great region. You elected me to this role to make Kodiak a better place for all to live, and while I believe we have a way to go, we have made great strides to achieving this goal. I have worked with all members of our government to improve the lives of every citizen of our beautiful republic. The task you have set me out on has not been easy, but every time I look at the faces of our workers, children, friends and families, I get the motivation to keep moving forward.
With this being said, I want to formally announce that I will be continuing my service to you all, as the President of the Kodiak Republic. I hope you can continue putting your faith in me to make the lives of each and every one of you better.
Kodiak has faced many trials, and we have faced them together as friends facing a common cause. While I do not think we have faced all of our trials, I believe we will overcome them as we have before, as a unified nation, one people. We together will keep moving forward, we will weather the storm.
Chancellor
Oskar Luchens (NUP)
Members of the Assembly,
I wish to announce to you today that I, Oskar Luchens, will be seeking election to the Chancellorship for this coming General Election. I do so in order to fulfil my civic duty as a citizen of this Republic and member of this voting body. I do not take this position lightly, we have suffered under ineffective leadership for too long. Our legislature is unorganized, lack legitimacy among the our population, and prone to paralysis. We have little to show for our efforts over the past years, after multiple governments. We have unfilled ministries, senior civil servants resigning in protest, an economy in recession, and a continued threat to our national security both domestically and abroad. This can not continue!
The National Unity Party (NUP) continues to seek a stronger Kodiak. We must take control of the crises in our nation. Only through government intervention can we exercise control where it is needed most. The NUP will seek to engage in a political partnership with the industrial and corporate heads to work a compromise to correct our declining economy. A better future for the youth of the nation must be secured. State intervention in economic production arises only when private initiative is lacking or insufficient, or when the political interest of the state are involved. These interventions may take the form of control, assistance or direct management.
To our north, we have a developing security situation with the Great North. Agitating against our frontiers and suggesting that Kodiaker territory belongs to them. We have seen no government response to this aggression. We invite disaster upon our Republic if we do not look to our defense and reinvigorate our ability to respond to and defeat such a possible contingency. If elected, I will instruct the Defense Minister to conduct an immediate review of the Military on all levels.
Let us all come together on Election Day and Secure Our Future!
Patrick Barber (KWP)
Good evening Working people of the Kodiak Republic! Good day to you, Working Peoples of the World!
I wish to start today by mentioning how proud I am of the volunteers, the activists, and marchers – the bakers who donate bread, the kitchens who donate equipment, the cooperatives who organise safe sleeping quarters for the homeless. The Socialist Movement is built by you, built for you, built with you!
Today we come together to celebrate the great wins we have made for the Union movement – the nationalisation of our central public utilities. Water will be for the people! Electricity will be for the people! Heat! Heat will be for the people! No longer will we find ourselves beholden to the capitalists for simply having the audacity to thirst! This revolutionary undertaking could not have been successfully conducted without the foundation of work from our esteemed Industrial Unions! I name of course the Kodiak Electricians and Operations Union as well as our comrades in the Plumbers Union and the infamous Civil Servants Union!
Today is a great day, make no mistake, but this must be but only the first step towards a fair and equitable Kodiak. I announce to you today comrades, that I, Patrick Barber, on behalf of the Kodiak Section of the Workers’ International, shall be seeking the office of Executive Chancellor of the Kodiak Republic! Let us maintain this momentum, let us build this momentum, let us create an economy that works for its people, not a people enslaved to economy.
I promise to you tonight, under a government WE lead, we shall not be absent; we shall not be asleep at the wheel. We shall revolutionise the Kodiaker State and do our utmost to eliminate unemployment, poverty, injustice, homelessness, and racism. We shall see the reactionaries scattered, and we shall build a better future.
- WHEN our party is elected to hold the Chancellery, we shall invest FOUR BILLION FLORINS to build STATE SUBSIDISED HOUSING.
- WHEN our party is elected to hold the Chancellery, we shall invest TWELVE BILLION FLORINS to improve PUBLIC EDUCATION.
- WHEN our party is elected to hold the Chancellery, we shall invest TWO AND ONE HALF BILLION FLORINS to SUBSIDISE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION for the poor, working, and middle classes.
- WHEN our party is elected to hold the Chancellery, we shall invest EIGHT BILLION FLORINS to build our MILITARY CAPABILITIES – to increase guaranteed employment and DEFEND ourselves from the MONARCHICAL REACTIONARIES to the NORTH.
- WHEN our party is elected to hold the Chancellery, we shall INCREASE UNIONIST ARBITRATION POWER and WORKER SAFETY LEGISLATION and we shall MANDATE EMPLOYEE REPRESENTATION ON ALL CORPORATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES.
This is my promise to you – we will put you first! Wage and salary earners and their families, professional people, farmers, pensioners, unemployed people, students make up over 85 per cent of our population. They are the overwhelming majority. These are the people suffering because of the exploitation imposed by monopolies, the privatisation of public enterprises, deregulation, cuts in government spending, and unemployment.
The Kodiak Workers' Party is on YOUR side!
Yungley Shaon (CACSPO)
