@Assembly Member, debate for this bill is now open. Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/14/2024 7:52 PM I'm struggling to match the cadence of the words to the tune presently. can you maybe add some time signatures (and which version of the song you're using)? https://kodiak.wiki/wiki/File:TKR_Anthem.ogg The Kodiak Republic Wiki File:TKR Anthem.ogg . I wholeheartedly support this bill. A wholesome and simple effort to create a wealth of new cultural value for Kodiak and her national anthem. Braughn F. G. Kryos

Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/14/2024 8:05 PM for reference, here are the original lyrics from 2010:

Our Kodiak Always Free

--- ---

For we now stand so free,' Fighting back for liberty. Stand, can you hear.. [Her roar] with open hearts' esprit de corps Rise. Strong and proud.' Let us sing with courage loud.

See Republic stand,' And spread this joy across the land. Free we all march on,' See our rising dawn.

--- ---

Dreams and hopes of all hold fast,' Equal freedoms unsurpassed Our Kodiak Always Free Jack Williams (DPPK) — 01/14/2024 8:30 PM I agree, I believe this is a good change. I fully support the bill John Edwards [KWP] — 01/14/2024 8:36 PM Are these the current (existing) lyrics to go with the anthem? To be replaced by the new ones in this bill?

Or are they an old version for a previous anthem? Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/14/2024 8:37 PM the seventh republic has not approved any lyrics. The set I provided are the lyrics from the third through sixth republic John Edwards [KWP] — 01/14/2024 8:38 PM But it is set to the present anthem? Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/14/2024 8:38 PM correct here is a highly embarrassing rough draft of how they fit. John Edwards [KWP] — 01/14/2024 8:50 PM So what we are essentially proposing here is that we replace a traditional & historical, yet unofficial anthem and lyrics with a new official set of lyrics.

While I'm not opposed to the new lyrics in principle I am also having trouble fitting it to the official anthem. Does the author have an anthem in mind when they created them? Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/14/2024 8:52 PM

According to my communication with the author, they were making use of this anthem version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-ucOrhQ430 YouTube The Kodiak Republic The Kodiak National Anthem - Kodiak Lives! Image Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 5:24 AM Yes. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 5:52 AM I proposed this act because i assumed there was no offical to no lyrics at all for the Kodiak National Anthem (Kodiak Lives). Therefore i proposed these lyrics that represents our republic. Feel free to ask me any questions Dr Edmund Cosmo Maltravers Jr — 01/15/2024 6:08 AM Mister President, call me a philosophical sort, but I have always felt that national anthems can have greater meaning without words; anthems with words are restricted at times as to how many languages can produce decent metrical translations, and anthems without such hindrances, therefore, can have greater impact. Insofar as there is no single assigned meaning, it can represent our own ideas of the nation. I believe this should, perhaps, be the route for Kodiak. Everett Grey — 01/15/2024 8:29 AM What about the American national anthem Jakob Karlsson - New Asden — 01/15/2024 8:45 AM Yes, but, it is more memorable with words. Imagine sitting in a stadium listening to your anthem which is solely instrumental. Now, imagine your in a stadium with everyone singing and cheering along. After all that Kodiak’s been through this decade, I think it’s time to create patriotism and unity. And this does just that Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/15/2024 8:54 AM I'm still struggling trying to get the words to fit inside the melody Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/15/2024 9:01 AM

While I understand the point the Chancellor is attempting to make, I do not think he quite grasps the intent of a national anthem. The intent of a national anthem is to represent the ideals of the nation, not the ideals of the world. Yes, lyrics may require translation into other languages in order to be understood, but this is not an international anthem, but a national one. I see no issue with presenting lyrics with set meanings. I see no way in which it could take away from the true impact of the anthem. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:51 AM Agreed. John Edwards [KWP] — 01/15/2024 10:51 AM Similarly to AM Marwood, I can't bend the lyrics into the existing anthem. Some guidance may be needed in this respect. I am in broad support of lyrics but I feel they must fit or I can't in good conscience vote for a change. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:51 AM That was my idea. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:52 AM I have sung the lyrics that i proposed (and made) with the music , and it sounded well. John Edwards [KWP] — 01/15/2024 10:53 AM Can you provide a guide for those of us who aren't seeing it? Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:53 AM Of the lyrics? Or of the singing. Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/15/2024 10:54 AM

The singing. I believe there is some confusion as to where the lyrics are supposed to go in the music. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:55 AM Oh. I did not record the singing, but i will be able to do that for you. At the moment i am not able to record though. But i will get it as soon as possible Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/15/2024 10:56 AM

Either that, or somehow indicate where the lyrics are intented to go in the music Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 10:56 AM Alright. The lyrics are followed by the music But some of the lyrics are or bars are long. Some of the lines are sung longer in the music Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 11:05 AM So for the beginning of the song / the chorus , is from 0:00 to 0:23 . I hope this helps. and the other part 0:23 to 1:09 is the first line if you would say. and then the chorus from 1:09 to 1:31 and then 1:31 to 2:19 is the ending and outro. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 12:21 PM If i do send a recording of the singing it may not have the music but the singing will be so you can have an idea. (Dont mind the audio please) The mic isnt good. It may glitchout a bit, Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/15/2024 12:30 PM John Edwards [KWP] — 01/15/2024 9:44 PM Thank you. That's very helpful. Incidentally, I pulled the sheet music for it so people don't have to keep singing to it and can just insert their lyrics over the lines (unless you want to keep singing, in which case go for it!). Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/15/2024 9:45 PM singing is faster than typing in space its also approx 5000 times more embarassing Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/15/2024 9:45 PM

We appreciate the performance, nonetheless John Edwards [KWP] — 01/15/2024 9:46 PM Kudos to the author for doing it for us. Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/15/2024 9:46 PM Look, I'm still rather partial to the old lyrics, but I abstain from commenting further on my preference - only to comment on the mechanics John Edwards [KWP] — 01/15/2024 9:47 PM Attachment file type: acrobat Dogs_of_War.pdf 81.73 KB Paul Mores - (KSA) — 01/16/2024 12:32 AM I think it's too late to change our anthem now.. People have probably already gotten used to the current anthem. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/16/2024 9:32 AM We havent changed our anthem? I have just proposed lyrics to the current music of Kodiak Lives But new lyrics (since at the time i didnt know that we even had lyrics) But i encourage you guys if you want changes to the lyrics, you can ask. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/16/2024 9:33 AM May i see it? Liam Harrison [KWP] — 01/16/2024 1:42 PM It's the pdf Liam Harrison [KWP] — 01/16/2024 1:42 PM Here Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/16/2024 3:45 PM Thanks Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/16/2024 4:30 PM Does anyone have anything else to say, or do you think we should take it to a vote? Liam Harrison [KWP] — 01/16/2024 4:38 PM I'm still struggling to sync that up with the music. Should I start that audio and the instrumental Mr. Kryos posted at the same time ( 📜|proposalsKodiak Lives! Act (663) ), or should there be a delay? Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/16/2024 4:50 PM I could do he lyrics with the song If u want Like in an audio Liam Harrison [KWP] — 01/16/2024 4:58 PM Yes please Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/17/2024 10:19 AM I will try Klaus Mikaelson [KSA] — 01/18/2024 8:33 AM I think I personally prefer it without lyrics Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/18/2024 10:40 AM I mean it is good without, I proposed it just because i feel like you would feel a little bit more patriotic with it. Espically as like if it were to play at a football (soccer) game , and they play it , you want something to really say instead of just standing there with your hand on your chest. For me i feel like it just makes me feel patriotic and better being from where i am from. Joanna Sousa KWP (Juliette) — 01/19/2024 9:31 PM Having lyrics doesn't necessarily mean anyone has to sing them in Kodiak at least!

Hard to stay in character for this one so whatever here are my IRL thoughts :P

Perhaps this discussion is better served to first ask: do we generally think we should have lyrics? I personally think it is nice to have. If that is the case, then it seems like we have old and new lyrics to consider.

For historical reasons I quite like the old lyrics. If people want new official lyrics I am not against it.

In terms of feedback for the new one I think the the last verse sounds at odds with the rest of it, as 'on the lines of death' feels out of place with the general theme - at least in my opinion it diminishes from the uplifting character of the rest of the lyrics. Additionally, I'm not sure why the lyrics start thanking God which feels out of place for Kodiak and an anthem that up until that point has been exalting the peoples unity and the people's 'heart'. Otherwise, the general direction of the new lyrics I think are suitably Kodiak in terms of unity, our republic, fighting for it. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/20/2024 4:45 AM So are there any lyrics you think we should change? like specifics? Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/20/2024 3:59 PM

This bill is set to head to vote today. However, I am happy to delay ((for a few OOC days)) in order to be sure of an excellent bill. What say @Aaron V. S. Barcka? Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/20/2024 4:27 PM I think we can delay maybe until Tuesday or Monday? Just incase some people have any moer additions, or changes to the lyrics, or thoughts. Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/20/2024 4:28 PM

I can accept such a motion. Therefore, voting is delayed until 23 January. I personally agree with Ms. Sousa's comments. Some of the lyrics do feel out of place, such as those mentioning God ((OOC, I'm fairly certain that Christianity either doesn't exist or isn't really a religion in Kodiak)). Urisko [KWP] — 01/20/2024 8:18 PM ((Hmm...what is Kodiak's stance with religion?)) Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/20/2024 8:20 PM ((traditionally we have for the most part considered that RL religions exist in Kodiak, but less homogenous than in most nations. While Christianity and culturally Christian agnostics are the majority, the nation is very full of most major religions as well as some fictional ones)) Eðward Staples 🧀 (Mengtian) — 01/20/2024 8:21 PM ((The early briefs describe Kodiak as having a sizable religious conservative portion. I've generally treated Mengtian as a particular hotbed of religious traditionalism)) Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/20/2024 8:23 PM ((it's true, during and after the epidemic most people retreated to traditional values as a way to protect the family and the psyche from the trauma of so much disease and death as well as social, political, and economic collapse)) Urisko [KWP] — 01/20/2024 8:24 PM ((But there is no state religion? Is there separation of church and state?)) Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/20/2024 8:26 PM ((it's more nuanced than that, because there is not an obvious religious doctrine which could be pushed onto that role. Yes the legal framework is one of secular humanism, but also no specific dogma has enough support to even get close to being a state religion. Kodiak is demographically a highly multicultural nation)) Urisko [KWP] — 01/20/2024 8:26 PM ((Awesome. Thank you.)) Edmund Marwood [NUP] — 01/20/2024 8:28 PM ((the lore explanation is that during old Kodiak, especially the third and fourth republic, Kodiak was such a major cultural and economic hub that major migrations permanently altered the Kodiak demography and after 100 years where people couldn't leave, it's become an heterogenous mass of multiculturalism.)) Urisko [KWP] — 01/20/2024 8:32 PM I would like to also emphasis President Kryos' point about the mention of "God." Since it seems that religious overtones are more general for Kodiak, perhaps this is very much out of place. Perhaps more emphasis on the pride of multiculturalism would be better? Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/21/2024 9:19 AM true We could change tha tpart. I do encourage people if they think some of the parts dont represent the Kodiak Republic , more or less, a little over the top. Dont be afraid to ask or mention. We can change " Thank god for our dearly might " To possibly " Let us unite as one" What does everyone think? I also think we could change " We are going to fight On the lines of death" To something like, " We will use our undenying strife" and "In our native land" "We will the best " to " We will be the best " ( i did messed up on that part) Klaus Mikaelson [KSA] — 01/21/2024 8:39 PM As long as the religious portion is changed I have no serious issues with the rest Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/21/2024 8:41 PM

Excellent. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 7:35 AM Alrighty then. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 10:17 AM Now of the changes as Ms Sousa said , it really does show unity, our republic, and us fighting for it' Urisko [KWP] — 01/22/2024 10:31 AM I'm sure you mean this generally and neutrally, but given a time of gross nationalism, I think a more progressive verse would be better here. In making lyrics, I would think overall review of the flow would be better than patch-working this. Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/22/2024 10:34 AM

I have additional concerns about "we will be the best" given the nationalism issue. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 10:44 AM I see Do you have any idea what to change it to Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 10:44 AM What do you propose then? Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/22/2024 10:49 AM

Judging from where I think the "we will be the best" line is, perhaps "we will rise above" which fits will with "Stronger and evermore" in the next line. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 10:49 AM I can see that. It does kind of fit Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/22/2024 10:50 AM

Still carries the "striving for greatness" feel without stooping to obvious nationalism Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 10:50 AM yea. I still wonder what exactly Mr Urisko's point was. I know what it was but i mean what he was proposing on it, Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/22/2024 10:52 AM

I'm not sure either, as "let us unite as one" isn't obviously nationalistic in nature. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/22/2024 1:24 PM Yea and it mostly talks about unity which is a good thing. Showing how we unite as one nation and community. Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/22/2024 10:12 PM

Any further debate before this heads to vote tomorrow? Mr. Barcka, have you made the appropriate changes to the bill as discussed? Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/23/2024 11:20 AM I am changing the lyrics at the moment. Braughn F. G. Kryos OP

— 01/23/2024 11:21 AM

Excellent. Aaron V. S. Barcka — 01/23/2024 11:34 AM Just finnished changing the lyrics. I sung it and it sounded great. EasyPoll BOT
