Article 1 - Defining and Subsidising Medically Necessary Elective Surgery
1.1 - Mandates the Ministry of Health and Education Policy Reviews to officially establish a definition of medically necessary elective surgery.
- 1.1.1 - Medically necessary elective surgery include surgery that treats or diagnoses an illness, injury, deformity, disease, or significant symptoms such as severe pain or is required for a person's body to function the way it’s supposed to function, or as close to that as possible.
1.2 - Mandates that insurance fully subsidize Ministry defined medically necessary elective surgery.
2.1 - Elective procedures are estimated to contribute to approximately 27% of hospital and health system revenue for patient services. This number is estimated to increase by 4% once elective procedures are subsidized.
