From The Kodiak Republic Wiki
The National Unity Party has barely eked out a win against the incumbent Kodiak Workers' Party in a race made tight after the shock resignation of Patrick Barber. The nation is suffering the effects of a global economic collapse, but there is reason to find hope. The water crises has been resolved and food prices have finally begun to fall to acceptable levels. Public spending has calmed a considerable percentage of unrest and maintained the standard of living for at least some sections of society. As for the rest, however, Kodiak has likely never seemed a more dreary place. Unemployment is sky high and international investment is unheard of. With the Great North looming large on the horizon and global politics screaming towards instability, defence will likely be a large part of the policy of this government - likely a reason for the NUP victory. Dark times face us. Let us hope Oskar Luchens can see us through them.
The National Budget
Public Secretary's Summary - The Barber Administration has been put in the difficult situation of attempting to right the ship of social security while in the midst of a global economic downturn. Deficit spending is up, and the economy (already weak from years of neglect) has entirely shattered. While Sovereign debt has barely moved in the last term, GDP has collapsed. Public expenditure has been able to soften the blow to some of our citizens (especially farmers and civil servants) but finances will remain strained until the global situation improves.
The National Debt
The National Debt stands at approximately ₣ 242.19 Billion with a Debt/GDP ratio of 30%.
Our predicted Deficit this year stands at approximately ₣ 8.88 Billion.
This will increase the National Debt to approximately ₣ 251.1 billion.
Our Sovereign Credit rating has been assessed by the World Bank as AAA.
Interest on the debt assessed at 1.70% and is expected to cost ₣ 4.12 Billion which represents 4.0% of annual expenditure.

The Political Situation
Public Secretary's Summary - The Barber Administration has been exceptionally effective at finally resolving the water crises and controlling food prices. However, with increased technological innovation comes technologically based problems. Internet Crime has become a severe drain on the economy while our intelligence serves struggle to secure our telecommunications infrastructure. Education is still in massive shortfall and productivity continues to slump as a result. Crime maintains exceptionally high levels and with the economic problems are likely to continue to worsen. It is unknown if these issues can be solved at this point without some more paternalistic policies.

Demographic Concerns
Public Secretary's Summary - The population has increased by less than 2%. Emigration continues to be an issue as young people escape Kodiak for better opportunities elsewhere. The Barber Administration's policies appears to have assuaged the socialists as their influence falls against other more pressing demographics. Conservative groups continue to threaten violence against the government.
