From The Kodiak Republic Wiki

The 645 General Election was held on 22 August 2022, with campaigning beginning on 15 August 2022. Incumbent Chancellor Patrick Barber (KWP) was the only candidates for Assembly President. President Tobias VirstΓΌrm did not seek re-election. Two candidates declared for the position of Chancellor. Oskar Luchens of the National Unity Party (NUP) and Klaus Miklaelson of the Kodiak Workers' Party (KWP). Chief Justice Martang EΓ°eltreow lodged his intention to remain early in the campaign season.

Notable in this election, civil unrest sponsored by the hostile Government of the Great North occured in much of the Darrent as well as within the City of Graz. President

Patrick Barber (KWP)
Honoured Assembly Members of the Republic,

As many of you will now be aware, the Kodiak Workers' Party shall be represented in the upcoming election by our good friend and comrade Mr. Klaus Mikaelson. And thus follows the question, what of Patrick Barber?

I committed myself to perform to the best of my abilities and to as well as circumstances would allow for the 642 government, and I am confident that the Kodiak Workers' Party has made Kodiak a better place, a fairer place, a stronger place than before. I ask that the citizens of the Republic please follow on to support Mr. Mikaelson and to continue the march of socialist progress.

As for me, I wish to take this moment to announce that I shall not be running as Chancellor for the 645 election, but instead shall offer my services as an elder statesman as President of the Assembly. I ask that you support my candidacy as you did in the past, and that you allow me to aide the work of this august body and hopefully to work alongside the other great comrades and leaders within the KWP.

I will not attempt to minimise my partisanship within this campaign because it is my honest belief that the KWP is the best placed organisation to continue to lead the Executive - but I will promise to support the assembly with procedural fairness and non-partisanship regardless of the results of the Chancellor election.

A vote for Barber is a vote for an efficient Assembly. A vote for Mikaelson is a vote for tomorrow. A Vote for the KWP is a vote for you!

Fellow members of the Assembly. As we move into the Campaign Season next week, I am formally declaring my intention to run for the office of Executive Chancellor. I look forward to the coming campaign, both for its challenges and the ultimate goal of a stronger Kodiak.

Fellow Assembly members. Scarcely three years ago. I took to this floor to announce my candidacy for the position I am once again seeking. Three years ago, Kodiak was in turmoil, the army was a dilapidated mess, the police barely able to operate outside the cities, the Kodiak Militia running rampant through the underground. Previous governments had sat idle and failed to manifest executive authority to tackle the crisis we face. Indeed, it looked like we might have collapsed were it not for the struggle of the past three years. There have been gains, there have been losses, and missed opportunities too.

The Kodiak Workers Party under Chairman Barber came out on top last election.A slim margin to be sure but that is indicative of the balance of ideologies of this republic. Mr. Barber had a broad platform of reforms on his mandate. Defense, Housing, and Taxes were the key pieces he pledged in his campaign. Successful these measures have passed the Assembly and been enacted into the law codes. The National Unity Party stood in solidarity with the KWP on these measures because it was agreed that we must act. Indeed, the NUP willingly has compromised on many items that would normally not be in line with our vision for the Republic.

Today I wish to talk about that vision as we enter this election cycle, namely today I will talk the key policy objectives for Defense and Immigration. The climate of our nation has changed. Externally we face a growing threat from a potential military power claiming our territory in the Darrent. With hostile rhetoric and physical shows of force they intend to force us to submit to their will. This is not the Kodiaker way, nor is it the NUP’s.

The NUP is committed to continuing the Defense Reforms that we started this year. It will take great investment and time to accomplish these reforms. But I assure you that Kodiak will grow strong to defend its territory. This does not mean increased defense spending. Merely maintaining it at current levels and prioritizing it to the key projects we need to hit our goals. To better prepare the nation we must invest in our industries what will be vital to the equipping and production of equipment needed for a potential conflict. The NUP is proposing to pass an Economic Recovery Bill with a total investment of 800 million florins quarterly aimed at investment into our manufacturing sectors and building the processes to keep those that are key to the defense sector running.

Immigration is a subject that has sorely lacked in the Republic the past decade. Meaningful reform has been overlooked in this sector. Given the rise of the Kodiak Militia, drug and human trafficking conditions that continue to plague the Republic, the NUP will unveil its Border Security Act aimed at cracking down at causations of this group’s primary recruiting grounds. This will completely overhaul the existing Immigration Act. Funding dedicated to the securing of the border is needed and the NUP will pledge to support this endeavor with a 40 million additional investment to institute a Passport and Biometric Program with the Kodiak Border Service. Legislative pragmatism will also be applied by closing our border to refugees. The expenditures we are spending on this doesn’t match the need or demand. Finally, we will move to increase the quality of the citizenship examination for those that meet the minimum stands for immigration. I look forward to your support in the coming week and together I hope we will all create a successful and stronger Kodiak.

Today, I rise to the podium to talk the next line of initiatives the NUP envisions for the success of this Republic. My focus today will be on initiatives involving the infrastructure, environment, and primary/secondary education of the Republic.

The Kodiak Republic was once a nation of great standing amongst the other world powers. When I look around and see the dilapidated condition our national infrastructure is in, I’m ashamed. Ashamed for my nation, and ashamed to be seen not doing something to fix it. The NUP is committed to investing 1.4 billion florins into a National Rail Project that will provide national transportation methods with a goal to achieve 160kmph as the top speed. This will enable the commuting of large swaths of the national population that is forced to sit in traffic on our deteriorating highways. We are barely able to keep the potholes filled with all the activity we are forcing on those roads. Therefore, the NUP is proposing a 600 million increase to the Transportation budget for road repair costs across the next three years.

The NUP is not only the true party of the people. But of the environment as well. The NUP is tired of watching KWP strongholds like San Chico, pollute the surrounding terrain and drag us into the abyss of ecological destruction. The NUP will work through a framework of Carbon Reduction with a goal to reduce carbon and air pollution sources by 10% across the nation. Through a series of tax and subsidies to target these key areas in addition to a dedicated Reforestation Plan we will achieve the effects you, the people and indeed the world, need.

Friends! I am proud tonight to declare that I will be standing in the upcoming election for Chancellor on the KWP line! I look forward to the upcoming election and to discussing some of the plans that my government will have for the next term.

Good Afternoon!
I first wish to thank outgoing Chancellor Patrick Barber for all his hard work and dedication over these last few years. His guidance and his leadership have been instrumental in our nation growing and striving to be better. It is my hope that as your Chancellor, I can continue in his footsteps and to work to make Kodiak a better place for all of our citizens. The momentum that we have built up over these last few years cannot be squandered now! It is only with your help, your passion and your dedication that we can continue our work to make our nation better, to provide aid to those who need it the most and to address those issues which make life harder for the average citizen of Kodiak.

So what are some of these issues, you might be asking? If elected, my government will look to invest into both our shortage of skilled labor and teachers. We will look at tackling the rising problems of street gangs in our cities by addressing the issues facing our youth today, and we will look to address the continued overcrowding of our prison population by introducing legislation that examines alternative means of punishment, not just to decrease the prison populations, but to help the inmates of our nation to turn a new chapter in their lives while ensuring that our citizens remain safe.

My Government will look to address the ongoing issues with alcohol abuse and the effects it has on our population. My Government will work towards addressing both the teacher shortage and the skilled workers shortage through a series of programs aimed at making programs more affordable and more appealing to the various members of our nations workforce. My Government will address the overpopulation of our prison system by proposing legislation meant to modernize our prison system and bring it into the modern age. My Government will work to address the street gang issues by bringing forward programs to give our youth meaningful activities and gainful employment in our cities.
